What is it?

A footnote plugin for etherpad

Why make it?

using etherpads for collective writing is great and a clumsy endeavor at the same time. Footnotes are important paratextual elements that can help highlight that we do not only write with the people that are active on the pad right now but always with so many more

Workflow

look into etherpad documentation

Etherpad already supports common markdown elements through buttons like bold, underline etc

use/ embed markup footnote syntax

make button for Etherpad interface header bar

future attempting to: build things that people can use

wider context

contributing/ tweaking to FLOSS tools to personal/ communal needs

caring for citation as a crucial but often overlooked practice

What?: opening things up as pedagogy
Why?: taking things apart, breaking, dis and reassembling, looking underneath today is prevented by seemless, proprietary tools, platforms and technologies - so we unknowingly learn to deal with/ handle those constraints, take them as given and stop questioning. Loosing criticality and ability do diy or diwo (collective autonomy)
Workflow: begin with more workshops & playtests; refine methods; sum up / publish
previous practice: relates to my browser extensions, moves of taking things from the unseen to the surface, also relates to a newer interest in technological components and more non-web oriented infrastructures
wider context: workshops, schools, alternative approaches to computer/ digital; hacker/ maker environments but also bringing (bridging) those ideas to designers, writers, artists (non-technologists)
rapid prototypes: (workshop) taking device apart, then collectively mapping, annotating and drawing components; (reading session) source code comments; (workshop) terminal to interface with computer/ server through text; (workshop) a website that tells you about its own making; (in the end) a workbook that sums up different exercises and approaches + on site live workshops

Workflow: look into: python projects; rewrite, fork existing projects like tpp and adjust; how to distribution + navigate dependencies
