While thinking ahead of the things I wanted to write on this page, I noticed some re-occuring themes/keywords that kept and keeps re-appering in my practice and interests since i started this master.

What's my practice now?

When coming to prepare for the public talk that i gave in Milano [see below], i came to better frame my practice since i had to publicly talk about that in specific:

My practice deals with point of failures of technology and i use the technology as a meta-tool to talk about it and to unveil the holes that technology itself has, and the holes that we can poke to look though it. ..................... + now add sound somewhere(?!)..........

In my artistic and research practice, I explore the potential, limitations, and breaking points of technology. Through the use of hacking practices, I adopt an inquisitive approach, seeking to uncover possible unconventional perspectives on the subject of my inquiry.
Technology can be considered a meta-tool. In my practice, I use technology to ask questions. Questions about the world, about our perception, and about the meta-level of technology’s own interference.

`Writing Machines Ensemble`

The Writing Machines Ensemble is an international experimental group of humans and machines that explore and research radical new forms of musicality. The ensemble focuses in exploring potential musicality through the sonic qualities of printers that are expressed through printed text and drawings, to bleed into musical notation.

Our core principles concern re-purposing printing oriented technology by expanding their limits over their original purpose. Furthermore blending the role of ‘instrument’ and ‘musician’ in an assemblage of artistic creation, with a strong emphasis on improvisation.

A core concept that resonated with me is Cognitive Assemblage by Hayles. (I, for instance, wrote the entry on the glossary of SI28). That concept of the mutual relationship we have with technology is now fully part of my way of thinking about technology and i think it will stick with me forever.

During SI28 my engagement with the topic of Writing Machines had a focus on musical writing machines, that spanned across lyrics writing, musical composition, and the concept of musical covers.

I developed a workshop in which to try collectively to develop an hand-style that can be read by humans but not by image recognition algorithms (OCR & AI)

`Fuck the Buff`

It has already been 3 years now that I’m working on this book about graffiti removals, together with my friend and colleague Leonardo Maurizio.

The purpose of this publication is to analyse and present the phenomenon known as ‘Buff’ as much as possible as a whole, whereas Buff it is intended to erase a mark that has been made in the urban environment.

As graffiti gained global recognition and become a subject of study, the parallel evolution of graffiti removals also unfolded and attracted the attention of many. The act of ‘buffing’ has fascinated art and graffiti enthusiasts around the world with its particular aesthetics and contradictions, making buffs stand out rather than being invisible as originally intended, and beginning to be considered by some as an ‘unconscious art’ form.

Rather than merely erasing unwanted marks, the buff has transformed into a distinct mark itself. From an anti-mark to a mark itself. This shift blurs the boundaries between creation and erasure, and prompts us to explore its nuances through a photographic research together with essays written in collaboration with academics, art curators and experienced people, on the various sides of this urban phenomenon.

This publication aims to meticulously document and analyse this phenomenon capturing its historical context, its characteristic aesthetics and its contradictions, as well as its metamorphosis influenced by artistic perspectives.

`Application to AMRO`

With the WME we applied to AMRO 2026 in Linz. Me and Robin wrote the application.

Performance description

The Writing Machine Ensemble is a collaborative performance that was created during the Master's Programme in Experimental Publishing at the Piet Zwart Institute in 2025. In it, students and machines from the course come together to do a musical improvisation.

It started out as an interest in highlighting the audible qualities of the machines in our studio. Typewriters, Dot Matrix Printers, Pen Plotters. We took inspiation from Kathrin Hayles' Cognitive Assemblages, a term to describe a change in attitude towards technology. Rather than seeing the human as the only actor with cognitive ability, she considers different 'cognizers' agents capable of interpreting and acting on information-with agency distributed between them across the network.

We quickly realised that this meant we were re-contextualising the original use of the machines, our relation to them, their historical background and the formal settings around what we understand as music.

Removed from their main function as tools of writing, these machines enter the room with us as we collaboratively experiment with protocols using our sounds to make patterns we humans recognise as musicality. Their written output becomes the live scoring of our improvisation in front of a live audience.

How does your performance contribute to the context and the topic of AMRO26?

We started with the machines by seeing their possibilities, which then allowed us to experiment with what music means. Rather than starting from a desire to make music and going for industry-standard software meant for making it, we used homemade bash scripts and txt files.

Reinterpreting vintage print oriented machines towards a musical output, where the print aspect of it is not intended to be commercial or secretarial, rather our live scoring production explores ways of writing music in new non-standard ways open to interpretation.

Update: In the end we did not end up being admitted but we have a great explanatory text on the Writing Machine Ensemble and it's great to see that the WME wants to expand beyond the XPUB Borders

In Jan i personally found out about an open call for an exhibition about performances artworks. I took care of the application by applying with our WME project and sent this brief PDF with the link to our video.

`Residency in Austria [upcoming]`

Together with Claudio we've been selected to do a 2 weeks residency in Wien at Semmelweis Klinik. Period: end of Aug beginning of Sept.

`Exhibition Huius Mundi`

I had an artwork showcased in the collective exhibition Huius Mundi, curated by Gabriele Perretta, at IUMBO Gallery in Bologna (Italy), from Feb 7 till March 15

`Quantum COM - Conference talk`

On Feb 25th, I was invited as a guest artist to talk about my personal artistic practice and the relationship with technology. The 2 days event took place in Milano and featured many other established artists and theorists such as: Derrick de Kerckhove and Vittorio Gallese.

The presentation I prepared was titled: Opening glimpses onto the failure of technology - Hackers practices for a disillusioning art, for which i wrote a 4 pages text that should be published on a publication that documents the event.

`Waste Waves Workshop`

In Oct/Nov I participated in a serie of 3 workshops at WORM on waste and recording sounds with contact mics. This workshop was shared to us from Michael. We first built a contact mic ourselves. We got to acknowledge insightful documentation regarding the theme of waste, especially within the Netherlands, sound recording, musical composition and mapping. We did a field trip to the AVR (Afval Verbranding Rijnmond) waste disposal facility to make field recordings with our contact mics + zoom mics. We wasn't allowed to get into the site. AVR is very politically exposed so they don't allow any type of visitor in, apart from investors.

The workshop was very cool and on the last day we got together to cut and edit our recordings. We uploaded them into a sample machine from Roland, and we improvised a sound composition over a visual of images recorded during the field trip.

This workshop was very interesting, rich in content and well planned overall. Most of all, thanks to it I got to understand and expand my feeling towards opening myself more to sound, to experiment with it and to integrate it as part of my artistic research.

`Buiten Kasteel`

Together with Hannes (my ex-flatmate, artist and musician) Kamo, and Riccardo (ex LB student) we started this band.

So far we publicly performed during Tiny Tuin #8 music festival. This festival was organised by us (mainly by Riccardo) and it took place in SOS. It was a festival composed by 4 acts with experimental musical performances and dances.

I play drums since more than 10 years, and i really hoped that i shouldn't have to stop cause of my living situation here in NL, thankfully that didn't happen. In this project what we play is really different from what I’ve been used to. Every time we play, we improvise everything!! There is a strong deal of understanding between us, thus we all feel comfortable with this approach. The mutual connection between our minds is priceless and is super important when coming to a group of musicians playing together.

In our music we do a roller-coaster between classical ways of playing and very open experimentations.

_____________________________________________________________ Some Other Space

Since i moved in Charlois, thanks to the kind souls of Joseph and Nami, I have been passed the baton of running Some Other Space (SOS), a polisemantic art space. Running an art space was a dream of mine, so i felt blessed by this surprise (when Joseph was telling me about the flat b4 i came, they never mentioned SOS cause they know about this dream of mine thanks to Claudio).

One space of 46m2, lots of possibilities, lots of effort. But I do the best I can since doing a master such as XPUB and running a space, and doing personal projects and working all together is not easy... Thank u very much Claudio for being the co-curator of the space.

PS. The whole building where i live is gonna be demolished this summer. At the end of this period we'll do a printed publication of everything that has been done in SOS.

`Tiny Tuin Festival`

Organised by Riccardo Santalucia (my neighbour and ex LensBased student) it's a festival of experimental music performances. The various artists and bands participants are curated by Riccardo, and i now help him in some parts of the selection as a consultant. Tiny Tuin is a festival that is already up and running since 2022 and from edition #8 it takes place in SOS.

Since edition #8 we integrated as part of the festival a collective dinner in which we cook for the audience and everybody eats together. Is a moment of sharing and togetherness, in which you can meet new people and talk to the artists.

`Movie Nights`

Movies are always nice to watch. But what's also cool about the 7th art is to talk about it.

Me and Claudio tried to stick to a program of screening a movie once a month, but we managed only to do so the first 3 rounds.

Movies that were shown were:

- The Teacher's Lounge, Original Language ENG subs

- The Wall by Pink Floyd, Original Language ENG subs

- Koyaanisqatsi - This screening was much fun and interesting cause the movie file that we got was off from YouTube, but in order to avoid copyright infringements the movie was uploaded in reverse. At first, we watched it without realising it was in reverse. After 20min we realised but decided to keep going till the end. So why it was "fun" to watch it in reverse? Koyaanisqatsi is great movie that has not a single spoken word in it, and the music is very minimal by Philip Glass. The movie displays a sequence of clips about the American Civilization, urbanisation and growth of capitalism. Normally this movie presents this concept with a "zoom-in" linear sequence, in which we go from the natural (images of natural landscapes) to the super-development of the human specie (rockets that goes into space). By seeing it in reverse, this perspective changed completely. It was now Zooming-out. The movie was still valuable to watch like this cause it sticks better to our time. Opposed to when the film came out, 1982, we now live in a time already "developed", where everything shown in the movie is now fully part of our daily life. A zoom-out perspective works better in relationship to our time, since it can show how things were before this spread out Capitalistic and globalised time.

`Exhibitions`

ABSENCE [ ] was an exhibition by Hannes Buchwieser and Barbara Klampf, 2 Austrian artists. The exhibition received funds from the Austrian Embassy Den Haag & Culture Moves Europe from the Goethe Instituut and the EU. During the exhibition a representative from the Austrian embassy came from Den Haag to see the exhibition! :)

Between us, yet within us, lies an emptiness that eludes us. It is there, but it cannot be grasped: a suspension in space, a movement between reality and memory. Like water, it flows, reshapes itself, drifts, submerges, returns, never the same, never tangible.
We feel it as the echo of a presence that dissolves the moment we try to seize. This inner absence creates spaces between us, translucent, vibrating, breathing. In the interactive exhibition conceived by Barbara Klampfl and Hannes Buchwieser multiple layers of projection touch and overlap with the room, simultaneously filling it and opening it. The individual perspectives are projected onto delicate membranes that move within the space.
Visitors become part of the work, stepping inside, casting shadows, inserting voids. Each one of us carries them—these spaces, these intangible moments in which we ourselves are suspended and that is for each person to decide.

My interest in the WME project is still going.

I feel afraid because i feel that i'm being influenced by the spirit of Joseph, even though i don't know him so well. I live in his house, i inherited the exhibition space and i decided to keep it like that, by not changing the name etc, and to go on with it. BUT i am accumulating vintage technology like he was doing. For the WME i bought 2 new dot-matrix printers off from Markplaats for just 10€ in total. Those 2 printers are my property but i want to shared them with the XPUB ppl and they're now stored in the XML. I still have to try them out btw.

The 2 printers are: Star LC-10 and a Tally

I bought them cause i was mainly interested in the LC-10 due to its ability to print on single normal sheets of paper instead of using the tractor paper.

`Bakfiets for the community!`

From Joseph i even inherited a bakfiets. Old, broken and dirty i took it to repair. It was a bit of an expensive job but it now works fine.

The bakfiets is for the community to share. You pay an entry fee to me (to cover what i paid for the repair job), and the bakfiets becomes yours for life. You will have a copy of the lock keys and you will have access to a group chat + an Open Source calendar in which all the owners share where the bakfiets is, who has it, who needs it and when. By paying only the entry fee, you can use it for whatever, whenever, forever.

I painted the front carriage, attached the stickers and wrapped the bike with neon orange tape.

When SOS (Some Other Space) will no longer exists (because yes, it's gonna be sadly demolished) it is my idea to let the bakfiets become the new Some Other Space. Especially for this idea of "other space". The idea is to go around the city with super small exhibitions that fits into the carriage of the bike!

`Tiny Tuin Festival`

Riccardo is now organising with my help, edition #9 of the festival.

We have received funds from Popunie, and we're on the run to obtain funds from the Gementee Rotterdam too.

The festival is gonna take place May 2nd and many musicians have already been selected. Regarding the selection there was a major interest in gender equality.

`Movie Nights`

On the weekend of April 10th, we'll host the Italian artist Gabriele Gandini, which he'll come from Italy to present his movie Sidereus. An artist short movie on the relationship between nature and technology. The artist will be present to present his movie and later to have an open discussion with the audience.

`Sticker Trade Day`

I started organising together with Claudio, the Sticker Trade Day that is gonna take place Apr 25th in SOS.

We want it to be big and very well organised, with partners that could sponsor the event with materials to make stickers such as sticky paper, markers, scissors etc. During the event we are also organising to have screenings and small workshops.

the project is still going. Tania di Brita is writing her text as the opening for the chapter regarding all the artists. We have 2 new artists to put in the book. MANY other contents still need to be produced. It's a loooooooooooooooooooong process, but as we know, it's a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll.

Since I've been moving / i moved here in Rotterdam i immediately started noticing how here in the Netherlands pavement cracks are covered with a thick mark in bitumen that follows their shapes.

I've always been drawn to cracks shapes and urban details. Those bold coverages serve the purpose of filling the cracks but additionally they underline them, making them stand out rather than covering the damage and blend it back into the pavement surface

- 3D scans of the cracks on the asphalt

- Obtaining high quality textures to having a perfect plain view of the shapes of the craks

- Isolate the cracks

- Separate the different shapes into single files

- Record sounds of the city with different mics (zoom + contact mics)

I had this idea of developing a possible thesis regarding the cheating topic, dodging and find your own way of surviving/to make it within a system.

On the other hand, I'm well aware that what comes up from this wrap up is my new interest in sound and my enjoyment in having given to it the possibility to expand and blend into my personal artistic practice.
