Thing: No Phone Holiday
About: Ok, so the project started with a holiday where I didn't have a phone. One week in a van in faro and no smart phone.

Learning: That it's basically impossible, that you have to get someone else to use their phone to do the most basic things. I think a big reflection was that the only reason I was going on the holiday was because of the internet and technology at large, so of course you would need a phone to travel there. Basically all my learnings are in the main text. Which may become a zine at some point.

Thing: Monday Workshop (17-11-25)
About: For a Monday workshop I ran a hour long workshop that asked people to do two main things. Firstly to confess/reflect on the issues they have with the Technology they use everyday. Secondly to write speculative fiction around how they might do everyday task less technologically.

Learning: Firstly I learnt that the framework I had been using (I , To, Even Though) wasn't great a people didn't have a chance to talk about why they do something, before reflecting on it. Also that people often resorted to quite external/political issues (e.g. Mark Zuck made it or I don't know what my phone is made off) rather then more personal reflections (e.g. I feel overwhelmed by having to respond to every text or I feel empty after scrolling).
Secondly, that the speculative part had very mixed results depending on what participants started with. Some people realised that they didn't even need to do the task they were meant to speculate about. Also the story format, was possibly too open and needed some more structure. However, there were glimmers of hope contained within.

Thing: Mock Assessment
About: The main thing here is that in the spirit of the project I used a blackboard to present my project outline and wanted to talk about that experience
Learning: Firstly it was fun and really helped structure my thinking, being limited to chalk board sized writing and the physical space. Much like the No Phone Holiday it was very uncanny/hypocritical as I copied a lot of things off my laptop into it and that I had hand written links on the blackboard. Am I just using the aesthetic or am I limited by the expectations of a technological society and hence at least some part of my work has to be online.
