executing reality
what conditions make reality real?
over the last decade, the term post-truth became a major watchword in making sense of politics and media, and now we live inside that condition where the mixing of truth and falsehood has settled in as a default rule, almost like air or gravity. truth has stepped down from its ontological status as a measure of reality, and seeing the world as a choice between truth and falsehood doesn’t help with making sense of it at all, it mostly brings fatigue.
so the foundation of my research should start from asking how certain versions of reality takes place: what protocols, infrastructures, operating systems allow them to take hold and become the world we live in. how execution works through tangled infrastructures of, let's say, institutional order, technology, political agenda, even our own belief system, and many more.
and most importantly, how these versions of reality can be picked, replayed, hacked, or parodied, how they can be twisted into being something else.

Don't Look Up, Adam McKay, 2021
probably a typical post-truth film, where truth doesn’t have much effect on reality anymore. also a “fun” metaphor for global warming crisis/the ending of the holocene.
it’s also interesting to look at it from execution point of view: what is actually being executed in this scenario that guides the significant, administrative decision making towwards a world-ending reality?
quite parallel to our own reality outside the film, the executed version of reality in the film is not driven by the scientific truth, it’s driven by a slogan from political campaign, media staging for rating, corporate calculations of revenue and investment. Each of them pass through its own protocol, embedded in infrastructures of political communication, media formatting, capitalist markets and so on. they define what can and cannot be executed as reality.
as a result, they push the world-ending comet itself out of the central frame. The comet is still coming but it becomes irrelevant. what becomes real is the administrative manoeuvring, media spectacle, and the promises of capital investment. Only the scientific truth fails to pass the protocol, while memes, political agendas, and capital successfully generate the shared reality that drives the collective action (or inaction).
