In UNIX, the tilde character (~) is a shortcut for the users home folder. Apparently this relates to the position of the character on a key named home on an early UNIX terminal.
Why was '~' chosen to represent the home directory?
Tommi’s idea: Add “Home” to the Grapevine, in the context of what and where is our digital home?
