From Where to Where

The graduation project and the thesis I am currently working on is a comprehensive result of all that I have been working on, both through XPub and beyond.

I want this presentation to take you on a journey explaining; my starting points, learning moments, and inspirations. Come along to witness where I arrived from and where I am hoping to reach; I want to design a browser game on how to attain residency/refuge/asylum in the Netherlands for nonimmigrants (or non-EU).

As someone who is new to learning through making, I want my thesis to represent the journey of how Social Sciences and Design can be combined in the making of this project.

I came to XPub as a disillusioned social sciences graduate, and through my days and weeks within the first year I kept on feeling like a fish being asked to climb a tree.

Now, I am comfortable saying that I feel more like a monkey learning how to swim.

What Was What is Becomming
Climbing trees are Fun!

Studied Anthropology and Political Theory for my bachelor, my thesis The Sense of Belonging of Young Migrants in Aruba was a result of a community engaged research.

What About and How?

A co-creation project on migration

talk about co-creation and how you will reach out to peaple, who

give examples of try-outs night and Zeynep's stories

SI25; (toes in the pond)

  • Piezo Mics: first introduction to learning through making
  • Graphviz: (desired project and a glimpse of an aesthetics forming)
  • DDW: Clownfish and Anemone methodology
I can make things
I can make things

The Method and the Making

  • through prototyping for the try-out's night I realized that I am actually learning by making. Feels great.
  • graphiz and the project I (will make) started introducing me to visual aesthetics of the artistic work I want to make, in this case replication of existing structures (with a twist)
  • DDW was also where the methodology started forming and leading my way.

SI26; (learning how to swim)

  • TypeScript: introduction to a coding language in which the attempts of trying to figure it out actually brought me pleasure
  • Bureaucracy: The project focused on the internal and oftentimes hidden (or maybe not recorded) relations and processes within the W3C speculations. The idea of making visible what is difficult to reach as a project started taking form.

Prototyping and Aesthetics

Using JavaScript for the most part of the game hopefully

and it in its entirety is a mock of bureaucracy.

SI27; (look mom, I am not drowning)

  • It was the first time I worked on a project alone, through the first year I though my knowledge and skills wouldn't be enough to pull a project without collaboration. This special issue proved me wrong, and gave me hope for the second year.
  • Website: the project was a website showcases different stories though time in the form of letter exchanges between me and the people who made me be. Even though I was struggling with website design from the beginning of the year, this project made it interesting
  • Stories: As an ode to the initial row, co-creation, interviews, a recorder of stories and letters, instances of people's life.

Well Here is My Project (in the making)

I want to make a browser game on simulation.

also a bit more on thesis's research question.
