some things that michael shared: opds feed (on koreader software), bootleg library uses calibre, kobo reader (koreader os) has a .txt editor that can generate a qr code to share the text >> so cool!

1. Do e-readers support host mode?

[1] confirmed here that some e-readers either have USB Host capabitlities or work with OTG and can therefore act as a host

2. jailbreaking / installing software

Tolino Shine 2HD

As of this page Postmarket OS can run on Tolino Shine 2HD.
Default OS is Android 2.3 [2] (have to "root" device to get access to most functions)
has two USB drives:
- one is linked to internal flash (named "Mein Tolino")
- second drive appears if sd is inserted as unnamed device, placing named files on this drive you can access them via the browser typing file://sdcard/
