An illustrated publication superstitions. More specifically, a look at the history and origin of a selection of superstitions and the function of superstition in a social context. Additionally, the publication could have a concluding chapter on fictitious superstitions of the future, considering the framework in which superstition emerge and speculating on which and how contemporary/current believes could evolve in the possible superstitions in the future.

• Read-up on general academic knowledge on superstition

• Select 3-4 common or uncommon superstition (personal relation)

• Research on the origin and prevalence of these superstitions

• Draft/sketch to illustrate the believes revealing their origin

• Look at contemporary believes and see if they fit a potential "future superstition" frame work

• Write about + illustrate these speculative superstitions of tomorrow

Researching:

• Preliminary research and selection: ~ 1-2 weeks

• Research into selected superstitions + draft/sketch: ~ 1-2 weeks

• Contemporary example research: ~ 1- 2 weeks

• Draft texts: ~ 2 weeks

• Illustrate: ~ 2-3 weeks

• Write about research: ~ 2-3 weeks

• Put together publication: ~ 1 week

✼ Why do you want to make it?✼

What draws me to this project is my ongoing fascination for the social-cultural narratives and their implications that contain elements of superstition and/or supernatural belief. Knowing that many superstitions originated in contexts and for reasons that are largely forgotten today, yet the superstitions remain anchored in our collective consciousness (whether one believes in them or not).

Another prior interest of mine and motivating factor relates to conspiracy theories. Especially what I would regard as "gateway" conspiracies — Seemingly harmless conspiracy theories which can potentially make their believers more receptive to greater, more complex and more insidious conspiracy theories.
