I want to make a wiki for me & my friends to document our practice, research and projects!

To do:

Manetta gave me some links to look into:

Installing ikiwiki on an old phone using termux

The phone I'm using to host the server! #spirk

The phone I am using is a Samsung Galaxy A51 from 2020. I gave it a Star Trek wallpaper :)

Installing Termux [✅]

I followed the steps detailed in the comphosting workshop tutorial and didn't run into any issues.

After this I run sshd on Termux and SSH onto it from my laptop!

Installing Ikiwiki on Termux from source [❌]

Wanting to start the installation of ikiwiki, the first issue I ran into was that Termux does not use a package manager like Debian/Ubuntu/Fedora, and has a different file system compared to other Linux distro's due to it using the Android phone's files as a base.

As a solution, I first tried to download and compile ikiwiki from source, following the instructions on the wiki.

  • Installed Perl
  • Installed all the dependencies

Tried to install ikiwiki but it says the dependencies are missing…

Installing Ubuntu on Termux [✅]

Installing Ubuntu..

A week later I realized it is possible to install a linux distro onto Termux. I first found a git repo that lets you install Ubuntu inside of Termux.

Installing Ikiwiki on Ubuntu on Termux [✅]

I ran apt-get install ikiwiki
Got error:
/etc/ikiwiki/auto.setup: Only one Term::ReadLine::Gnu instance is allowed. at /usr/share/perl5/IkiWiki/Setup/Automator.pm line 17.
Dropped it for the rest of the break :')

A week later I discovered Eleni's Ikiwiki page, and that she and Claudio have been experimenting with it too! We chatted and shared our progress.

Eleni got the exact same error and found the solution, [[Ikiwiki#Setup_[1]|detailed here]]. The installation worked!

Installing and running nginx on Ubuntu on Termux [❌]

Installing Debian on Termux [✅]

Installing Ikiwiki on Debian on Termux [✅]

Success!!!
